5 attractions at one location!
SouthCarolinaHauntedHouses.com recently sat down with Matt Davis of Fear Farm, to discuss what's new at the attraction for the 2018 Halloween Season!
What's new at Fear Farm for 2018? Do you have any new rides, attractions, or special features that Haunt Seekers should know about?
Everything is truly new for 2018! We doubled the size of the Abyss attraction as well as added a few surprises in the dark. We renovated Ringmasters Circus Academy will more actors, props, and a new maze. Then, we added 3 completely new attractions! Mineshaft mayhem, Dr. Feelgood's house of dentistry, and The Farm House round out the last of our 5 attractions all for 1 ticket!
What are you most excited about for the 2018 Halloween Season?
I think my most exciting attraction is the mineshaft. Customers actually get to go down into the mine shaft and see what surprises wait for them at the bottom. It has been a hit so far.
What differentiates Fear Farm from other local haunts in South Carolina?
We have a lot that separates us. One is that we do offer 5 attractions for only a $20 ticket. A lot of places are charging $25-30 for one or 2 attractions. I feel like we give a great deal for your money. Another plus is FREE parking and we also have a 5 minute escape room on site!
How long has Fear Farm been in business? Can you tell us a bit more about Fear Farm's history?
The Fear Farm opened in 2011 and has been ranked highly since. We change things every year and pride ourselves and getting more creative and pushing ourselves harder each year we are open. I truly believe this is the best year yet!
What's your favorite experience since opening Fear Farm?
I love seeing customers getting out of their cars already terrified just from being out in the "country" on a farm. It sets the mood. Then, seeing all of your year-round hard work pay off and seeing people laugh, cry, run, and even pee their pants on occasion makes it all worth it.
How long is a typical haunt experience at Fear Farm from start to finish?
We timed a group from the time the attraction started until they walked out the end and it was at least 35 minutes. From the time you get out of your car, buy tickets, shop the midway or concessions, plan on spending an hour on the farm if there is no wait.
On a scale from 1 to 10, how scary would you say Fear Farm is? Why?
I would say The Fear Farm is an 8 on a 10 scale. I think we strive to be entertaining and have great sets, costumes, and scares. We try to incorporate ever fear like spiders, snakes, clowns, and tight spaces but also some startles like loud noises and air blasts to make even the toughest customers jump.
Does Fear Farm's property have any real haunted history? Do you have a spooky encounter you'd like to share?
When my grandparents owned and worked the farm they had some unexplainable things happen on the farm. While we think the farm may be haunted, we don't think the ghosts or spirits that live here are harmful.
What inspired you to open up a haunted attraction? What's your favorite part of the business?
I was born in October so it has always been my favorite month. When everyone in school was drawing stick people I enjoyed drawing monsters. I loved the Adams Family, The Munsters, and horror movies as well as going to haunted houses myself. I always knew I wanted to celebrate Halloween in a big way so what better way than to throw a month long party with thousands of customers?
How has new technology (i.e. animatronics, special props, etc) helped you to enhance Fear Farm?
The best technology that has helped us LED lighting. We can hook up 10 times the lighting now than we used to using flood lights and halogen bulbs. It really helps pull less power and the colors and options make for a way better show.
Can Fear Farm accommodate large groups? How many people can experience Fear Farm together as a group?
We can accommodate huge groups and have buses and groups come down regularly. We still like to split the groups up into no more than 6-8 people for an optimal show. We want the whole group to be scared and entertained and what we find is that any more than that either the front or back of the group misses a lot of the show.
Does Fear Farm offer any special deals, discounts, or coupons?
In 2018 we are doing Buy 3 get 1 Free nights on 3 nights. Check out the website at www.scfearfarm.com for the calendar and more details. Also on Nov. 3 we are doing BLACKOUT night for one special night after the season where all lights go off and customers navigate with only glow sticks. On these nights your glow sticks are included.
Anything else you'd like to let us know about Fear Farm?
I'd love to see all of our loyal fans come back out this year and see what we have done. I think you'll be blown away. Also, if you haven't been to see us you should really make us a "must see" this year. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
