2024 Question and Answer With Fear Farm

Home » Blog » South Carolina Haunts: An In Depth Look

SouthCarolinaHauntedHouses.com recently sat down with Matt Davis of Fear Farm, to discuss what's new at Fear Farm for the 2024 Halloween Season!

What's new at Fear Farm for 2024? Do you have any new rides, attractions, or special features that Haunt Seekers should know about?

2024 is our 14th year and arguably our best year ever! We have added our 6th attraction, The Coven, which features 7 witch sisters who live in the woods (you asked for more trail in the woods, so we listened). We also upgraded our midway even more including a new gift shop called “The Farmer’s Market”, more food items, more midway characters, and more photo ops. Plus….we always change and upgrade some things here and there inside the other 5 haunts as well.

What are you most excited about for the 2024 Halloween Season?

I am most excited for everyone to see the new witch area. The sets are truly Universal/Disney quality and each year we keep pushing the bar as to what we can bring our fans.

What differentiates Fear Farm from other local haunts in South Carolina?

We have focused on making sure that each group has a great experience. We have gone back to stopping the group briefly and letting them enjoy things like a prison warden’s medical chamber, a haunted elevator, and more. We have figured out a balance of how to keep groups going in and not catching up to one another but hopefully not wait in line forever either. We offer lots of things on the midway like live music, food, and more while customers wait to make it a fun night out instead of just a wait in line and haunted house.

How long has Fear Farm been in business? Can you tell us a bit more about Fear Farm's history?

We opened in 2011 and have grown yearly since!

What's your favorite experience since opening Fear Farm?

I love just seeing the people have fun, laugh, and get scared. I love all things Halloween and scary year-round so it’s fun to see all of the people enjoy what we worked so hard to make and build.

How long is a typical haunt experience at Fear Farm from start to finish?

In 2023 the average person was on the farm around 1.5-2 hours. The attractions themselves usually take between 35-45 minutes to go through all 6 haunts in a row.

On a scale from 1 to 10, how scary would you say Fear Farm is? Why?

I would say the Fear Farm is about a 7 on a 10 scale as far as scariness. We strive to be as much fun and entertaining as we are scary. I don’t want people to go home so scared they never come back, but I can almost guarantee at least one jump scare for the even the toughest of customers. We have at least 100 customers per season who can’t make it all the way through but we also have children go through twice…..so I think it’s just really up to the customer and their fears.

Does Fear Farm's property have any real haunted history? Do you have a spooky encounter you'd like to share?

The farm has been in my family for over a hundred years. There are all types of paranormal and spooky encounters here. So much so….that a few of times a year we actually host a paranormal night where a team of paranormal investigators lead customers through on a real ghost hunt. Check it out on the paranormal tab on the website.

What inspired you to open up a haunted attraction? What's your favorite part of the business?

My birthday is October 13th so I was destined to be a Halloween fan! I have always loved classic monsters, even goosebumps books, ghostbusters, all horror movies, and scaring people! It was a perfect match! My favorite part is just owning something that thousands of people love and come to see every single year to celebrate my favorite holiday and time of year!

How has new technology (i.e. animatronics, special props, etc) helped you to enhance Fear Farm?

We have lots of animations, things that move, even full rooms that move now at The Fear Farm. All of it together with traditional scares, awesome sets, and well trained actors make for the perfect combo of fear.

Can Fear Farm accommodate large groups? How many people can experience Fear Farm together as a group?

We can accommodate as few or many people as you’d like to bring. Each year we have charter buses and school buses, sports teams, etc. so we can handle any size group. Around 6-8 guests go through in a single group so that we put on the best quality show, but your large group will be back to back so you won’t be far behind each other. For groups larger than 13 we offer a group discount so contact us and find out how we can help!

Does Fear Farm offer any special deals, discounts, or coupons?

The best way to stay up to date on deals, discounts, coupons, and changes is to follow our Facebook page and stay tuned on the website at www.scfearfarm.com

Anything else you'd like to let us know about Fear Farm?
